KRISTEN STEWART
Kristen Stewart didn’t intend to become an actress. She got a call from an agent out of the blue after the then-eight-year-old sang a song in her elementary school’s Christmas show. Her script supervisor mother and stage manager father had some reservations at first: “They were like, ‘Really? This is something you want to do? Because you know what hell this is,’” she remembers. “I guess I was steadfast.” Last year, she was in Into the Wild, as the dreamy hippie who falls for Emile Hirsch’s character. This fall, the 18-year-old is starring as Bella Swan in the film version of the first of Stephanie Meyer’s cult vampire books Twilight.

PRESSURE COOKER: The huge fan base of Twilight has taken Stewart by surprise. “I sort of figured it would always stay like a cult movie, because Catherine Hardwicke directs good indies. It seemed like it would be not that big of a deal. It has turned out to be the opposite.”

SHE GOES HER OWN WAY: Because of erratic shooting schedules, Stewart opted for an independent-study program rather than regular high school, and has put college on the back burner for now. “I have had so many demands put on me in such a structured way my entire life that at this point, I need a minute. I don’t need someone telling me what book to be reading,” says the actress, who also would like to pursue a writing career. “I definitely have a future in academics, but not right now.”

UP NEXT: She’ll be back in cineplexes in Adventureland, a comedy set in 1987 from Greg Mottola, the director of Superbad. After that, she will shift gears to play a 16-year-old stripper in the drama Welcome to the Rileys. “I’m going to be such a goofball stripper,” says Stewart.

'Twilight' Stars Kristen Stewart, Nikki Reed, Taylor Lautner Get Cagey About Reshoots

Reed says the Oregon weather made the reshoots necessary.
By Larry Carroll, with additional reporting by Elena Torres

HOLLYWOOD ― As fans from Boston to Bombay now know, the stars of "Twilight" recently reunited to shoot some additional scenes for director Catherine Hardwicke. Although MTV uncovered some of the new info when we caught up with the stars at the VMAs and other events around Hollywood, many details remain a mystery.

At the party to celebrate Teen Vogue's Young Hollywood issue, we spoke with stars Kristen Stewart (Bella), Nikki Reed (Rosalie) and Taylor Lautner (Jacob). They had new details to reveal about the multiple scenes they just shot ― as well as their rapidly accelerating level of fame building up to the movie's November 21 release.

"What are we allowed to say?" Reed wondered aloud, teasing us while she thought back to the top-secret shoot. "I think all we can say is, there were a few days when there were some weather issues [during the original shoot earlier this year] and some time issues, and a few things that could have been done better. And they were."

To get an idea of the extreme Portland weather to which Reed referred, look no further than this clip MTV captured on the "Twilight" set. That popping noise you hear is golf-ball-size hail pounding against the roof of the greenhouse in which they were filming.

"There were a lot of additional scenes," Reed explained. "I think when they saw the film, I mean this is kind of a guess, but I think that they realized that it could use a little bit more of the old element, so I think the flashbacks focused on that."

Reed seemed to think they needed to keep this intel a secret, but Robert Pattinson (Edward), Peter Facinelli (Carlisle) and Kellan Lutz (Emmett) have already revealed that the new shoots included a scene establishing the history of the Cullens. To show when Carlisle and his family made a treaty with the Quileute Indian tribe, the actors dressed in pegged pants and old-timey caps. Facinelli even had to speak to the tribe leaders in their language.

"I'm a vampire, so I'm in the flashbacks," Reed said of the scene. "But this one here [pointing to Stewart] is still ― how old is Bella ― 16, 17?"

"She's 17," Stewart said.

"Yeah," Reed continued, "so she's in modern time only."

Sure enough, some scenes did take place in modern time, and Stewart was called back for those, including a reworking (with better weather) of Edward and Bella's encounter in the meadow.

And though weeks ago, Lautner told MTV News that they were adding him to the prom sequence, he decided he had to be vague about it this time around.

"[The new scenes are] just a little backstory," Lautner said. "I'm not sure if I can say what I did, or I might not be walking tomorrow! It definitely improved the movie. They did three scenes, and it really has an impact on the film.

"Kristen was in [a scene] with me. Rob was. It was a fun scene," he added. "It was good to see everyone again, because I hadn't seen them in like three months. We reunited, and it was a lot of fun."

The 17-year-old actor also marveled over the fact that the "Twilight" movie has become so big that simple reshoots could capture the attention of devoted fans all over the world.

"The fans are just ― well, it's always been insane, so I don't know if I can tell if it's gotten bigger," he laughed. "Everywhere you go there are 'Twilight' fans. It's amazing. We show up at the VMAs and step out of our car, and there are 'Twilight' fans surrounding us like crazy! It's pretty insane how the fans are the driving force of this thing. And I'm really excited to be a part of it."

Twilight Updates - Baseball, Reshoots, and No Privacy Whatsoever

Twilight Updates - Baseball, Reshoots, and No Privacy Whatsoever
Friday September 19, 2008
Vampires seem to be more popular now than at any other time in recent history. Alan Ball's brought the Sookie Stackhouse books to life in a sexy, down-and-dirty HBO series starring Anna Paquin as a telepathic barmaid who seems to be a magnet for the supernatural. And Stephenie Meyer released the fourth, and possibly last, book of the Twilight series this summer. With a film version of her first Twilight book set to hit theaters on November 21st, bloodsuckers are getting more than their fair share of media exposure.

While the stars of True Blood aren't being hounded by the media, the same can't be said for the Twilight actors. Every move they make seems to be photographed and analyzed, with new photos of Robert Pattinson ('Edward Cullen') hitting the web every day. Of course, if he wanted to stay out of the limelight he could choose to avoid going to clubs, but who's to deny him from having a good time when his career's just heating up. Other Twilight tidbits surfacing recently include news of reshoots for a key scene or two. MTV spoke with cast members and director Catherine Hardwicke who all seem to want to reassure fans the reshoots don't mean there are problems with film. The reshoots were to provide more backstory on the Cullen family and Pattinson also had to redo a scene in which he plays the piano for Bella (Kristen Stewart). "We reshot the 'Bella's Lullaby' scene with a different piece of music," said Pattinson in an interview with MTV. "I heard my original one the other day, and I really liked it. I was kind of depressed afterwards, but I like the new one as well. The new one I didn't write; the composer Carter Burwell did it."

And you don't need to be a sports freak, just a Twilight fan, to get excited about this last bit of Twilight news. One lucky Twilight fan has the chance to win a baseball signed by the cast of the film. The rules are fairly simple - register at the official site and follow the directions. The film's official site is running the contest now thru October 9th at 11:59p.m. Pacific Time.

Twilight Scoop! Sequels, Action and Paramore

The movie adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's young-adult vampire novel Twilight won't hit theaters until November, but the stars are already talking sequels.

"I set up my performance to make it satisfying to do at least two more," Robert Pattinson, who stars as Edward in Twilight, told me at yesterday at the VMA's. "I don't know if they're going to make them or not, but I think they probably will."

Taylor Lautner, who costars as Jacob, says they'll know more when box office receipts come in. "Nothing's been confirmed yet," he said. "So we're waiting to see. If it goes well, then maybe."

Pattinson and Lautner didn't even know about the Twilight phenomenon when they first auditioned.

"I hadn't even heard about them," Pattinson says of the now four-book phenomenon. "I was living in England at the time, and they really weren't anything in England then."

They've now read all the books, but Lautner is quick to point out that the movie isn't just for the series' mostly female fan base. "What we tried to do with the film is add a little more action and horror to it," he explains. "So now it's for everyone."

Lautner and Pattinson hit the VMAs with Twilight costars Kristen Stewart and Cam Gigandet (that's Cam above in the middle of Pattinson and Lautner) to introduce a performance by Paramore, the pop-rock band that has a new still-untitled song on the movie's soundtrack.

New Twilight Release Date and Teaser Update

Despite the recent buzz about the leak of author Stephanie Meyer's incomplete draft of Midnight Sun, the most recent story Meyer was working on in the Twilight series, the momentum on Twilight hasn't slowed down, as Summit Entertainment recently issued a new release date for the upcoming film and an updated one-sheet to reflect the change.

For what's shaping up to be a huge fan favorite hit on the scale of Harry Potter, Summit issued the new theatrical release date of November 21 as the day Twilight and its vampire based story will see the light of day.

Check out the newly updated one-sheet for Twilight after the official synopsis jump.

"TWILIGHT is an action-packed, modern day love story between a vampire and a human. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) has always been a little bit different, never caring about fitting in with the trendy girls at her Phoenix high school. When her mother remarries and sends Bella to live with her father in the rainy little town of Forks, Washington, she doesn’t expect much of anything to change. Then she meets the mysterious and dazzlingly beautiful Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a boy unlike any she’s ever met. Intelligent and witty, he sees straight into her soul. Soon, Bella and Edward are swept up in a passionate and decidedly unorthodox romance. Edward can run faster than a mountain lion, he can stop a moving car with his bare hands - and he hasn’t aged since 1918. Like all vampires, he’s immortal. But he doesn’t have fangs, and he doesn’t drink human blood; Edward and his family are unique among vampires in their lifestyle choice. To Edward, Bella is that thing he has waited 90 years for - a soul mate. But the closer they get, the more Edward must struggle to resist the primal pull of her scent, which could send him into an uncontrollable frenzy. But what will Edward & Bella do when James (Cam Gigandet), Laurent (Edi Gathegi) and Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre), the Cullens’ mortal vampire enemies, come to town, looking for her?"
